Alona Shardae Speaks: What Makes Me and My Whole Universe

In fourth grade, I won Battle of the Books. Alone. My team never read the books, and they never showed up to a single match. My mom was so proud of me, and I was so embarrassed. To this day it’s one of my biggest traumas: straight abandonment issues wrapped in the blanket of a win.

Where I come from

You could say I’ve always been a lone wolf. I never really had friends, but books, a camera and a mic have always been there for me.

I started posting on social media as soon as I turned fourteen. My mother and I signed a contract of do’s and don’ts. She was very strict… well, when it came to me, anyway!

Family is everything to me. I’m a very good cook and baker (shout-out to my mother), and shout-out to my Mudder, my mom’s mom, for teaching me her famous dumpling recipe. I spend all the time I can with my dogs and my nieces and nephews. I have three dogs, and yes, I’m allergic to them, just not as badly as I am to cats, which I love but can’t have. Over the years I’ve had parrots, bunnies, a chinchilla and a turtle, so momma knows what she likes and what she doesn’t.

What I love

Reading, writing, creating content and studying. A book that really spoke to my soul was The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. A book that unlocked my mind in the most beautiful way is Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros.

I’m always down for a rewatch of a show or movie I already love, but starting something new is hard for me. My mom always said I get “too invested.” Funny thing is, I don’t do that with books. I’ll start a new one every week.

Why this site exists

This website is my time capsule for everything I want to do and say. Especially with censorship so strong right now, I want a place where I can be me without having to worry. Also, why are people so mean? Well, not here.

I love posting reviews on Goodreads, Fable and Amazon, but I wanted a little blog inside my own website, for all things Alona, where all my words can collab in one place.

My plan is for you to get to know me in every area of my life. I truly want to build a bond with you. Maybe one day we’ll start a book club and share all our opinions. Or we’ll talk about which of my videos you loved, or where to find something of mine. A true beacon of all things me, and people like me.

Now it’s your turn: tell me the book that changed your life. Drop it in the comments, or DM me or tag me on TikTok or Instagram. And join the reading list on Planet Reading so you don’t miss a single review this November. 💜
